Most agree that Ayurvedic classical texts were written in India between 3,500 and 5,000 years ago, though some suggest an even longer history.

Ayurveda is a healthcare system and lifestyle principles that bring harmony and balance to your constitution.

The most fundamental characteristic of Ayurvedic medicine is the unique principle of the doshas. The doshas are different percentages of the five elements that make up a person. Our dosha is determined in the womb long before we are born. There are three doshas classified as Vata, Pitta, and Kapha and sub doshas that combine the three main ones..

It is possible to be a combination, and typically people find that they are a combination of the three. We further split the doshas into seven categories, Vata, Pitta, Kapha, Vata-Pitta, Pitta-Kapha, Vata-Kapha, and Balanced Body type (one who has all three doshas balanced.)

Our faces are a reflection of our internal systems, our emotions, and our physical state. They are like a window revealing who we are and where we have come from. Using a variety of face reading techniques and Facial Reflexology, imbalances, stagnation of emotions, and physical health can be identified. Identifying the root cause of the skin’s issues can create space to heal internal disharmonies, creating an external glow of health and happiness. Skin concerns including acne, dullness, loss of tone, hormonal issues, pigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, and facial tension can be addressed through individualized treatments such as: Gua Sha, Facial Reflexology, Dien Chan, auriculotherapy (ear seeds), massage, Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine modalities, lymphatic drainage, and natural skin care products. These treatments are designed with care to address each individuals’ specific needs. By alleviating and dispersing stagnation through massage and Gua Sha, you increase the flow of blood, lymph, Qi, energy, and prana, nourishing the skin and clearing energetic pathways revealing an outward glow. Treatments will allow the nervous system to calm and relax, allowing the body to reharmonize. Bringing movement to the skin improves circulation, creating a glow from within. Skin will appear lifted, toned, and contoured. This treatment is designed to address all skin concerns from within by tapping into our bodies’ own healing mechanisms. We will work together to create an at home ritual to extend the effects of treatments, and to empower you to take your own care into your hands. Creating your own ritual should be simple but feel luxurious and bring you joy. Feeling good in your skin and luxuriating in your rituals will boost Qi energy and bring out your natural beauty. Skin care products can be discussed and product recommendations can be made. Simplicity is paramount. Sometimes you can find the best thing for your skin in your fridge. Where appropriate, at home rituals can and may include self massage, pranayama, mudra, meditation and movement.

Hi! My name is Brittany (pronounced Bri-ta-nee). I have been grateful to live on the beautiful lands of the Lekwungen and WSÁNEĆ nations since 2016! As a yoga student and instructor with a passion for wellness, I am so excited to be working at MA and to be offering some of Ayurveda’s medicine through Ayurvedic bodywork. I was lucky to do my Ayurvedic bodywork training with Sarada in October, 2023. I hope to connect with each person that walks into the treatment room with kindness, and to offer them a space to relax and unwind through receiving Ayurvedic massage. I know how valuable tending to our bodies is in allowing us to calm our minds, and to access parts of us that may become buried in our everyday lives. Currently, I am specifically offering the rejuvenative practices of Shiroabhyanga (Head massage) and Padabhyanga (Foot massage) which are both hugely beneficial for us physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. When I am not offering Ayurvedic bodywork, I am connecting youth to nature at forest schools, and mentoring newcomers in Victoria. I enjoy being outdoors, spending time with friends, creating community, dancing and practicing yoga! I look forward to meeting you!

Shanti LeBlanc, RMT, approaches her treatments with a grounding and nurturing touch. She understands that her job as massage therapist is to understand the science and anatomy of the body, while listening deeply to her patients’ needs. Her goal is to provide a comforting and supportive atmosphere in order to facilitate the healing of each unique individual.

Shanti believes that through combining her structured understanding of anatomy with the intuitive guidance of the body, she is able to lead her treatments holistically. She values understanding her patients health goals through learned knowledge as well as felt empathy.

Shanti combines the therapeutic properties of traditional massage with the soothing effects of hot stone massage. While weaving in a variety of modalities such as Swedish Massage, Trigger Point Therapy, Myofascial Release and Joint Mobilization, she skillfully incorporates the smooth lava rocks into the massage strokes. Using this technique helps to both relax her patient’s nervous system and loosen fascia and muscle tissue with ease. The benefits of combining the use of hot and cold stone therapy with other massage therapy modalities are far reaching, as they result in a deeply restorative experience for the client. Not only does blending indicated techniques with the use of hot stones therapy provide a sense of calm and tranquility throughout the body and mind, but it can also help to reduce anxiety, act as a natural muscle relaxant, enhance blood flow and lymph drainage, improve overall well-being, and much more.

Hi there, my name is Laurel (she/her) and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (CCC #7226) with a Master’s degree in Counselling, as well as undergraduate degrees in criminology and psychology. I have had the honour of working as a counsellor for the past 25 years in schools, community mental health, the military community, addictions programs, and correctional facilities. I am also a yoga teacher and sound healing practitioner and love to add these into sessions when folx are interested in exploring how these practices might support their well being.

I am passionate about walking alongside you as you find your way back to what brings you joy. I have training in solution focused therapy, trauma informed somatic therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, EMDR, cognitive behavioural and narrative therapies and I pull from these to invite you to find your way back to a life you truly love.

I have been an uninvited settler on the unceded, ancestral land of the Lekwungen Peoples of the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations for the past 20 years. I acknowledge the importance of engaging in ongoing personal and professional learning and unlearning in order to work from a feminist, LGBTQ2+ affirmative, and anti-racist approach and I am committed to this lifelong work. When not working I love to be on top of mountains, immersed in forests, in or on the water, hanging with my dogs and amazing daughters. I can support folx who may be experiencing or recovering from low mood, anxiety, depression, nervous system dysregulation, sexual violence, substance misuse, disordered eating and grief as well discussing issues of sexuality and gender, military lifestyle, and life transitions,
